Schalck, George Philipp, very often only only stated as George Schalck or George Schalk
as he did not use the "c" in the spelling of his name when being in America,
was born in Wiesbaden, Germany on November 22, 1825. There, he apprenticed
and learned the trades of a locksmith and gunsmith and received his first stage diploma as a
locksmith on January 26, 1844, at age nineteen. He continued his pursuit of a locksmith trade
and achieved the rank of Master Locksmith on August 9, 1852, age 27. George Philipp got his
official license to work as a locksmith on September 25, 1852. It is known that he worked
with wrought iron during the same time.
He came to America in 1854, sailing on the ship "Peter Hetrick".
Schalck was an unrivaled gunsmith and rifle maker. However, he was also a marksman of
international acclaim.
He died in Potsville in 1893.
